If you live in the Los Angeles, CA area and are skilled in user experience design, WordPress development, copyrighting, and more, there’s a new event that could use your help. It’s called Website Weekend and takes place October 22-23 at OpenX in Pasadena, CA between the hours of 9am and 6pm.
Organized by Alex Vasquez and Natalie MacLees, in association with the Los Angeles chapter of Girl Develop It, Website Weekend will pair around 15 nonprofit organizations with dedicated teams assigned to help create their web presence. Organizations will also receive training on how to use their new site.
“These nonprofits get a pop-up digital agency. They get a developer, a user experience designer, a content strategist, a project manager, and it’s a high-caliber team,” Vasquez said.
“WordPress will play a big part in the weekend since it makes it easy for our developers to build out complete sites in such a short time frame and then easy for the nonprofits to learn to manage and update themselves and to get help in the future,” MacLees said.
Those interested in volunteering need to register on the volunteer signup form and specify which skills you can contribute. Volunteers are required to purchase a Website Builder ticket for $15 where 100% of the entry fee is donated to Girl Develop It. For more details and to purchase tickets, visit the Website Weekend website.
Thanks for covering this, Jeff! We’re super excited for the event and it’s a part of a larger tech event called “Connect Week (https://connectpasadena.com),” which is pretty cool to be a part of as an organizer and as a representative of the WP community.
Thanks again! =)
