I managed to get it working self-hosted after finding the source code on a public svn repo, theme available at https://github.com/tomjn/p2020, just install that and the O2 plugin 🙂

It seems the reason it wasn’t available immediatley seems to be that it relied heavily on WP.com internals, but it was easily fixed to use normal WordPress functions instead.

Your fork seems to be miss a key feature… the mini gutenburg editor on the front…that’s the big selling point.

P2tenberg wasn’t open sourced, but I’m working on replicating it. I already have a plugin that does it to the comment section but didn’t have time to apply it to the O2 UI

Otherwise there’s still a lot of improvements to P2 2020 over P2 Breathe or classic P2

This is exciting to see. P2s are the one tool that I miss from my time with Automattic. Once they add networked/multisite P2s, I’ll be pushing my current organization to try it out.

    Two thoughts

Why is this theme and plugin based? Surely all the functionality should be moved into a plugin, that would make it more useful.

Secondly given there is similar functionality maybe this should integrated into buddypress?

This P2 (https://cleanthechi.com/) is being used to help heighten awareness about “normalized blight.” It’s running on Pressable. Big “props” and “shout outs” to the entire team. The best hosting I have experienced—by far!

Since this is my first comment here, I just wanna “say” that the Tavern is in a serious zone; you’re really moving at warp-speed. Cheers!

P2 is now a product, thus it’s both backend and frontend. A lot of features require tight integration to work. As of now, plugin+theme is the simplest way to provide this integrated experience, if this changes in the future we’ll review.
Buddypress is a social network and discussion forum, while P2 is a collaboration platform. The goals are very different: one is open ended and built for socialization, while the other assumes socialization and it’s built to make things together.
