For me, and I think almost everybody have not noticed this yet, WP 5.8 finally fixed the bug when for one reason or another, some patterns were not showing up in the block inserter. This is fixed now… for almost 2 months that drove me nuts !!!

While I welcome most of the changes, I am really put off by the fact that you cannot set a title to the block widgets. To do so, you need to use the heading block but that displays as a separate widget on the front end!

I really feel they should include the title option within the block widget settings.

And the Classic Editor plugin is still at 5 million downloads and going strong. I wish they would focus on security and optimization.

theme.json is the best thing that happened in this update. This makes things easier for developers. Block Widgets, on the other hand, will make developers go mad! ;)

Is Esperanza Spalding aware she was honored with a release (5.7)? She’s currently helping jazz legend Wayne Shorter finish his opera, due to be presented later this year…

FYI, the James Moody’s foundation (https://jamesmoody.com/) uses WP… We’re friends with his wife. I nominate him!

My typo above (should be: James Moody’s foundation) brings to mind the topic of “comment editing.” Is it a resource hog? But, I digress…

I mentioned Esperanza Spalding because she’s a living jazz artist and would love the inclusive, life-affirming WP community. Just thinking about outreach… Love the Tavern!
