Chris Christoff The shortcodes API, prior to this week had very little documentation in regards to the boundries of what it was designed or intended to do. During the course of fixing one of the 22 addressed issues with 4.2.3, the determination was made that it would be better to break a very obscure functionality that affected a couple plugins out of well over 40,000 plugins on the repository. The risk with the specific vulnerability was more than justifiable to do so.
