PwwwPwww “If your not paying for a service, you’re not the customer you’re the product!” Or something equally cynical. Never used Jetpack myself, but from looking at jetpack.me and the repository I can’t see any mention of payed upgrades etc. So why are Automattic offering all this loveliness for ‘free’ ? What’s in it for them? If you use WordPress.com, I can see the financial incentives. But for self-hosted WordPress users? In the case of Facebook and Twitter, it’s all the lovely data you generate that they can sell to third parties. Is this the case for Automattic? Or are they hoping it will encourage self hosted users to start using WordPress.com and it’s paid upgrades?
