I, for one, am sad that this is the first time that Cwicly has gotten any of the publicity it deserved on wptavern.com. What they were doing was unparalleled in the Gutenberg ecosystem.

I’ve felt keenly since the beginning that Cwicly catapulted Gutenberg development 10 years into the future. The incredible flexibility of design and functionality controls is/was stunning and exhilarating.

For those of us who discovered this gem, the sudden uncertainty caused by this project abandonment is gut-wrenching. For better or for worse, it throws a wave of doubt over the viability of WordPress as a platform in terms of the current paradigms used in the ecosystem.

The best case scenario that I can think of at the moment would be for the Gutenberg core team to take a serious look at the accomplishments of this small dedicated team and look at fast-tracking more of this functionality into core.
