Justin Tadlock Humans are naturally artistic. Much of what we, even the greatest artists of among us, create is mediocre at best. I imagine Stephen King has a few old manuscripts that he cringes at. I’m sure Jimi Hendrix didn’t know how to finger a chord before he picked up his first guitar. Paper, pens, typewriters, instruments — these are all just tools to create art. For every King and every Hendrix, there are 100s or even 1,000s of mediocre artists. It doesn’t mean that we should not empower them to create their art. The next great may be among them and simply need the proper tool to bring their art into being. WordPress, likewise, is merely a tool. It is a method for people to publish their content. Just because the majority of blogs in the world are not filled with Pulitzer-worthy prose does not mean we scrap the mission of making publishing as widely available as possible. No, we continue on. We continue making a tool, for better or worse, that empowers more people to create things on the web.
