Yes, Nollind, giving that flexibility and empowerment to users – who want that customization to do themselves – is great – but there are many audiences who don’t want to make that decision or they are paying someone else (a theme developer, an agency) to make those decisions for them – like deciding what colors a table should be and don’t want to think about having that option available
(https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/16478)

I’m in that latter situation – I’m a web developer for a local organization and maintain our internal theme.
My co-workers who edit the content on the website don’t need to care about the line-height or the select which 18 different colors on the color palette, they just need to 3-4 of our internal colors and have the line-height already set by default by; so these decisions can be made by me and the graphics/design team. Yes, resuable blocks and block patterns can help make some of these decisions already

However, in Gutenberg, you’re unable to remove those decisions and it’s a longstanding issue – https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/20588

Note, this is just one decision – it’s certainly not the most frustrating or impactful issue that I have with Gutenberg but I’m writing this on a Sunday morning, on my free time, why should I spend it sharing even writing more of my criticisms if no one from the Core Team is going to listen and take these into consideration? Why would I make a pull request if it’s going to sit there for weeks if the core members aren’t to even acknowledge it?

I admit that I don’t know enough about JS and react that I can’t confidently say where the decisions that they are being made are the ‘best’ ones but for the broadly project from a technical scope there are clearly several issues (here’s a couple for starters) where there’s issues that could be addressed by core members:

– (especially this one)
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/11388
https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/issues/7604

At various points in their journey of learning and using Gutenberg, people in the WordPress community will either walk away, find other solutions, or do the absolute bare minimum to fulfill their needs and won’t carve out any leisure time to give back with Gutenberg because it’s not a pleasure or fun challenge for them.
