Tim Kaye The fundamental problem with Matias Ventura’s vision of building the very best editor first, and then seeing what adjustments might need to be made afterwards, is that he doesn’t seem to understand what the notion of “best” actually means. You can’t have something that is “best” in the abstract. It must be “best” for or at something or someone. No-one would claim that there is simply a “best” painkiller, or a “best” car or plane. Such a claim would make no sense unless we knew the type of pain and patient involved, what the car would be used for, or how many passengers would be transported and between which airports. Similarly, there can’t be a “best” editing interface without knowing what data it is intended to manage or who its intended users are. So, Matias – and everyone else on the Gutenberg team – please drop this rhetoric of “best” unless and until you are prepared to say explicitly who and what you are building this for. And please don’t think that a glib response like “We are building this for everyone” will wash. If that were true, you wouldn’t even have contemplated using iFrames for metaboxes.
