Tammie Lister It’s great to see comments around this as it shows people want to find a solution, you are being listened to. As the design lead of Gutenberg I also want to find a solution to metaboxes, whatever that approach ends up being. I myself want to remain open minded about what that solution may be and try approaches. That’s one aspect of Gutenberg has worked for us so far, trying this and prototyping. That is what is happening right now. What we have today is one way metaboxes could work. To find out all the stress cases (they are stress not edge cases as cause stress) and what works even more non-stress cases for metaboxes we need to test. There’s a lot more testing going into metaboxes in Gutenberg now it’s live, over when it was a PR or theoretical discussion on GitHub. The fact that as designers of a product, predicting correctly all cases (stress and otherwise) is impossible, that’s usual for a product. That is why we all test, prototype and iterate. You ask the same questions each stage of the product (even up to release), because a new solution may present itself as you work. This is exactly what my comment was referring to. Now we’re testing we can move beyond the predictions, the research and see what does or doesn’t work.
