Andrea Middleton Our org team has done an amazing job (working so, so, so hard) and has put together an event that we hope will both show off what folks are doing with WordPress in Medellín and also help grow the local community. Since there’s never been a WordCamp in Colombia before, we’re really charting new territory — no one knows what to expect from this event! I’d kick myself if I didn’t mention how much support we have received from our local sponsor, Tecnológico de Antioquia, who has not only provided us a free venue, but also are providing the coffee and videography for free! (wut) So we totally lucked out there, and we got that deal through one of our local organizers. :) We’re also lucky enough to have TWO amazing women speakers, since Karen Arnold was kind enough to fly down to join us, and I’m excited to say that Samantha Hare, one of our organizers helping out from Peru, will be interviewing Catalina Zapata. A huge take-away for me personally, working on this event, is how much effort is required to organize a locally-focused event when the local community is still small and when no one really knows what to expect from either meetup events or WordCamps. Each incubator WordCamp is facing really different challenges, but we’re all learning a ton, and that’s why we WordPress folks like to try new things. :)
