I’m waiting for the endpoints. And better authentication support.

Delaying shipping major endpoints until it mirrors wp-admin capabilities is a bad idea. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Matt appears to think that the success of the API should be measured by the adoption rate in plugins. I don’t think this is where the real success lies.

The real success will be the third party integrations – other sites, services and apps that are able to talk to WordPress without the need to install custom plugins – plugins that may be unsupported or half-tested.

We need those endpoints shipped – even if the full API is not complete. I don’t need to be able to edit theme files, upload images or access password protected posts to use the API – all I need is access to the core data endpoints, and I’m sure many others agree. The rest can be added later – progressive enhancement is not unexpected at all.

As soon as that happens, you’ll start seeing some amazing uses of WordPress that go beyond “Just another WordPress site”
