mark k. Timoty, so I need both underscore and backbone just to get an abstraction that does nothing by itself. Lets ignore the waste, why is it needed at all, why can’t there be a simple JS API, call it even wp_query, to do it? So here is the obstacle, core developers and many other good developers will have no problem with using the rest-api if needed, but most of the wordpress developers, including theme and plugin developers, are mediocre at best (After so many years I see on stackexchange people that don’t understand how ajax should work in WP) and for them anything that is not a simple copy and paste from the codex is too complex to use. REST API should probably have a simple JS SDK so people will not even have to know how the communication is going on.
