But it benefits Automattic for a very simple reason. .com has a JSON api and core doesn’t. So now that can be a talking point in meetings with VIP clients. E.g.: “Client: Hey Matt, what can .com do that self-hosted can’t?” “Matt: Well we have this API…” I’m not saying that’s the reason he’s advocating further delay of merging. I am saying it’s a legitimate conflict of interest that should be addressed, and his opinions on this topic should be viewed with those conflicts in mind.
