The third edition of php[world] will be held in Washington, D.C., November 14-18 and organizers have published the finalized schedule. According to conference co-chair Eli White, the number of people submitting WordPress-related topics caused the organization team to create a double-sized WordPress track for this year’s event. The conference, which aims to bring together the various sub-communities that are linked by the PHP programming language, will feature 12 WordPress sessions, 8 dedicated to Drupal, 7 to Laravel, and 4 to Magento.
Of the 126 unique speakers who submitted to php[world] (not counting the invited keynote speakers), 46 were accepted through the call for papers. Organizers received nearly 500 conference submissions, many of which were WordPress-related. White said the team worked hard this year to get the word out to the WordPress community through reaching out to various user groups and media outlets.
“The WP development community is strong and responded in kind!” he said. “When we were assembling the schedule, we put an emphasis on having extra WordPress talks so that we’d have an excellent base for WordPress folks.”
php[world] is a unique opportunity for professionals to hear some inspiring stories from fellow PHP community members. Nara Kasbergen and Paul Miles will be representing NPR.org, sharing the site’s 15-year journey with PHP in their keynote presentation, including where they started and how far they have come with PHP7. Edward Finkler will be talking about mental health in the tech industry.
WordPress lead developer Helen Hou-Sandí, Director of Platform Experience at 10up, is a keynote presenter and will be sharing “Seven Lessons from the Trenches of WordPress.” Other topics in the WordPress track include containerizing PHP applications, working with the WP REST API, e-commerce, multisite, and plugin development.
White and his team of organizers have invited a number of local User Groups to host meetups during the conference so attendees can connect to more members of the local community. DCPHP and WebNEXT will host meetups during the conference and organizers are working with both DC Drupal and WordPress groups to organize additional events.
