France is getting its second official WordCamp. The event is called WordCamp Nantes WP Tech and will be held in Nantes on Saturday, November 29, 2014. Unlike your traditional WordCamp, WP Tech will be devoted entirely to developers.
“The idea is to share knowledge, ideas and best practices about WordPress development,” organizer Daniel Roch told the Tavern. “It’s slightly different from a basic WordCamp because there will only be one track about development.”
Roch is joined by four others on the organization team and they are expecting 100-300 attendees at Epitech, a school for computer innovation. “All of us thought that there weren’t enough technical conferences about WordPress. In fact, we spoke with many developers, and all of them were enjoying the idea of a WordCamp Developer Edition.”
The selected venue is located in the center of downtown Nantes, as the event was born out of WP Nantes, a thriving local meetup group. The organizers are looking for passionate speakers to present on technical topics. “It doesn’t matter if you’re an expert about your topic,” Roch said. “You must be passionate! Concerning the topics, we’re looking for presentations on coding best practices, security, performance, APIs, etc.”
WP Tech organizers are considering adding a contributor day, but Roch said they don’t wish to stretch themselves too thin for the first event. “It would be great for us to have a contributor day, but we are afraid to bite off more than we can chew. We think it’s better to have a smaller yet well organized event, rather than a disappointing one.” They remain undecided about adding a contributor day.
The call for speakers is already open and those selected will be paid for travel and hotel. Presentations will be given in both English and French. Applications to speak will be closed Tuesday, July 15, at midnight. Contact the organizers if you wish to participate.
