Kinsta to Award $1,500 Travel Scholarship for WordCamp US

Kinsta, a WordPress managed hosting company founded in 2013, is continuing to contribute back to the WordPress community. Last month, Kinsta gave away 10 tickets to attend WordCamp US December 2-4, in Philadelphia, PA. Now the company is offering one travel scholarship to the event valued at $1,500.

The winner is required to purchase lodging, airfare, and a ticket to the event. Kinsta will then reimburse the winner up to $1,500 via PayPal. Reimbursements are only available for travel expenses related to WordCamp US.

Kinsta Contributes a Percentage of its Revenue Back to WordPress

Kinsta is a team of twelve people that’s generating seven-figure revenue. Sean O’Brien, Chief Operating Officer, explains why the company is financially giving back to WordPress.

“When I came on board at Kinsta last July, one of my goals was to have us support the community in terms of a percentage of revenue that would grow over time,” O’Brien said. “So we are trying to punch above our weight when it comes to giving back.”

Kinsta has sponsored the following WordCamps in 2016 with plans to sponsor at least 15-20 WordCamps in 2017.

  • WordCamp Buenos Aires
  • WordCamp Orange County
  • WordCamp Tokyo
  • WordCamp Sydney
  • WordCamp DFW
  • WordCamp Rio de Janeiro
  • WordCamp Nashville
  • WordCamp Phoenix
  • WordCamp Seattle
  • WordCamp Stockholm

While giving away tickets to an event is a nice gesture, a $1,500 scholarship can change a person’s life by providing the means necessary to attend the largest WordPress event in the US. O’Brien describes what inspired Kinsta to create the scholarship.

“After seeing many comments from community members expressing their desire to travel to WordCamp US, while mentioning their lack of means, we decided to step up and make at least one person’s dream of attending come true,” O’Brien told the Tavern.

To apply for the scholarship, you’ll need to submit your name and email address. Submissions are being accepted today until Friday, September 23rd, at noon Eastern. The winner will be notified by email and will be chosen using a random number generator. Only one entry is allowed per email address.
