There’s a lot of great WordPress content published in the community but not all of it is featured on the Tavern. This post is an assortment of items related to WordPress that caught my eye but didn’t make it into a full post.

Terrible Software

John James Jacoby explains why he thinks today’s software is terrible.

Today’s software is a perpetual nightmare machine of non-stop frustrations.

If you need a reason to read the article, check out his 10 ways to improve software development. Only Jacoby knows how to link the process of making soup to developing better software.

WordCamp Sunshine Coast Testimonials

WordCamp Sunshine Coast recently took place and while there, Troy Dean recorded a video where he interviews a few different attendees about their experience. We find out why they attend WordCamps, if it’s their first one, and reasons why others should attend. The video is just over three minutes long and well produced.

Tips on Crisis Management

Somewhat in response to our post on Headway Themes, Marc Benzakein of ServerPress, published his experience in managing crises. While there is a lot of great material in the post, there is one thing he says that I wholeheartedly agree with.

The WordPress Community is fantastic and forgiving when it comes to bumps in the road. It is mostly built up of small businesses and entrepreneurs (all of whom, it turns out, are human). They understand that ‘things happen’. They just need to know what’s going on.

Throughout my career of writing about WordPress, I’ve found the above to be true more often than not.

NASA Glenn Research Center on the Benefits of Using WordPress

The NASA Glenn Research center published the various benefits they’ve encountered using WordPress to power its site. Among the benefits listed include, only basic HTML experience required, no additional software necessary, and built-in section 508 compliance. It’s pretty cool to see how beneficial WordPress is to an organization like NASA.

Searches for WordPress in Decline?

A user on Quora recently asked what is behind the decline in people searching for WordPress. Mario Peshev of DevriX, gives a great answer. Fewer people may be searching for WordPress but that’s because they’re being more specific. For instance, searching for WordPress Developers, WordPress Themes, or WordPress Experts.

Help Translate the WordPress 4.6 Release Video

WordPress 4.6 is nearing release and the WordPress Polyglots team is asking for help to translate the voice over so captions can be added.

Volunteers Needed for the WordPress Theme Handbook

If you know a thing or two about WordPress themes, please consider volunteering some time to the WordPress Theme Handbook project.

Wapoolaba!

I usually end each issue by featuring a Wapuu design. For those who don’t know, Wapuu is the unofficial mascot of the WordPress project. This week’s Wapuu design is Wapoolaba which represents WordCamp Sunshine Coast 2016. This Wapuu loves to surf!

That’s it for issue fourteen. If you recently discovered a cool resource or post related to WordPress, please share it with us in the comments.
