As is tradition on WordPress.com, it’s that time of year where they turn on the snow machine. In order to accomplish the same thing for a self hosted installation of WordPress, you’d need to use a plugin. Great news if you’re already using Jetpack! If you have Jetpack enabled on your site, point your browser to Settings – General and look at the bottom of the screen.
Check mark the box, click save, visit the front-end of your site and watch it snow. You can control which direction the snow falls with your mouse cursor by moving it to the left or right side of the screen. The snow will automatically stop after January 4th.
IF your page uses mainly white as a background, edit /wp-content/plugins/jetpack/modules/holiday-snow/snowstorm.js and edit line 24. I’m using
this.snowColor = ‘#e0e0e0’;
