  1. Thanks for the write up Sarah! Glad to see the feature being used here.
If you have any feedback on the flow (connecting, etc) let us know.

  2. Sarah,

Great post and I am a favor of Google authorship, however it has just presented my sites with a problem, upon updating the Jetpack today I noticed I now have two author sections. One from Jetpack and one from the author plugin I was already using.

After many attempts to disable the functionality of Google+ in Jetpack, to which I was unable to clear the author box, I decided I would have to remove the author plugin I had. (which is nicer and had more functionality.

To boot, I keep some blogs, such as niche blogs separate from my normal Google+ profile. It is nice of Jetpack to provide the functionality, I would like the decision of using it up to me.

  3. Can I link Google+ and benefit from Authorship without sullying the footer of every post with my profile info? Thanks!

  4. Can I link ownership to my google+ page since that is the username/author name I use for blogging?

  5. I’m apprehensive about this.

Similar features exist in popular plugins such as Yoast’s WordPress SEO. With Jetpack’s “auto activate” feature that they seem to love I don’t want Jetpack to take over Yoast’s plugin.

With what Derek has said above, it does appear to cause issues. Whilst unfamiliar in the plugin he is using, I’ll think I’ll pass on this update for now. Thanks.

  6. @Derek – if you experienced issues when trying to remove the authorship link, do not hesitate to send us an email, wel will be happy to help!

@Rhys – It is safe to update. You can always follow the instructions here to deactivate a Jetpack module you don’t use.

It’s also worth noting that the Google Authorship link won’t appear until you connect your site with your Google+ account under Settings > Sharing in your dashboard.

  7. Wonderful to know, thanks for sharing!

  8. Thanks for the review! One issue: I have a multiple (20+) author blog who don’t have access to 99% of the WordPress dashboard. In order for them to be able to utilize the G+ authorship, will I need to 1) give them access to the “Sharing –> Settings” so that they can authorize themselves with G+ and 2) ask each of the to log in and so so? Appreciate the help!

  9. @DaveZ – Yes, you can set up authorship through the Yoast SEO plugin.

Doing so will enable your photo to show up in Google search results, but you won’t have a link to your profile on the footer of every post.

  10. I am logged into and have connected my Google+ profile with my blog, but when I try to activate the Jetpack button (the one that says “connect to Google+”), the button is not clickable.

Anyone else experience this or have a solution?

    Thanks.

  11. I am using an older authorship plugin, but I tend to favour Automattic’s versions (Jetpack’s contact forms to CF7, etc). I was thinking about disabling the old plugin, but I have two questions:
    1. there is no google+ author link in the page source (as opposed to the old plugin). how are the author’s parameters passed to google?
    2. I’m using a child theme (with almost zero deviation from twenty twelve, just different title fonts) but I cannot see the author box, or any of the extra google+ options (with or without the old plugin). any suggestions?
    Thanks

  12. Thanks for the useful info. I have been using Jetpack for a while now.. but did not know about this feature. Good that I don’t have to install another plugin. Thanks again.

  13. I tried to connect my google+ account to my wordpress blog usig jetpack but it didn’t work properly.
Error: “We could not properly connect to Google. Please try again or contact suppport.”
    What’s wrong?

  14. I’ve connected my blog to Google+ using Jetpack 2.7, following all the instructions and checking and double checking, but it’s not adding Google+ to the bottom of my posts and isn’t correctly linking authorship (checked via Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool). I’m at a loss…

  15. I run a multi-author website. How can I go about getting verified Google authorship for each one of the writers? Is it necessary for all of them to have a Google+ account?
